Experience civic collaboration in a heritage walk among the commons of South-East Rome

Last week, Saturday, May 5, 2018, the co-district of South-East Rome was crossed by paths of civic collaboration, urban redevelopment and co-governance of common goods in a busy day, meetings and debates organized the LabGov in the context of the Co-Roma Project launched in 2015, in collaboration with the Municipality V, ENEA and the University LUISS Guido Carli, the Public Park Community of Centocelle and various organizations and associations active in the area.

An itinerant community of students, professors, professionals, stakeholders and active citizens set off by bike from the Aqueduct Park in the Don Bosco district, to reach the Torre Spaccata district where, at the green area adjacent to the Rugantino library, EDU@LabGov Urban Clinic and La Sapienza Landscape Architecture Master’s Degree Course students inaugurated the third satellite of the #ortoLuiss.

A workshop of horticulture, the enhancement of the experiences of vertical and cassette urban gardens and reflections on the importance of concrete experiments of circular economy have enriched a morning in which people of all ages have shared a rediscovered contact with public spaces and natural of the territory.

On this momentum and in the same ideal direction, the third stage at the permaculture project of Rome City Hall V “The transformed dream” allowed participants to visit the park Giorgio de Chirico, at Tor Sapienza, and to discuss how institutions and communities can seek together solutions of environmental requalification and social reactivation of those territories in which the weight of urban inequalities is stronger.

The rain did not stop the desire to confront and reason collectively on the shared beauty of the common goods of our city and the participants found themselves in the Library “The Hour of Freedom” where – after admiring the exhibition “100 small faces of Centocelle” by Giorgia Capatano – they sat down to discuss together the future of the district of Centocelle.

Representatives of the #future and Centoc laboratories of Enea – the National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development – presented the new ideas to manage the territory ensuring the environmental and social sustainability emerged from this year’s workshops facilitated by LabGov using participatory methodologies capable of including and giving voice to citizens of all ages and categories.

Finally, at FusoLab 2.0, the last exciting stage of the day that saw the protagonist Valentina Correani share with Silvio Bruno president of the Committee of Centocelle District and Vincenzo Luciani Director Abitarearoma stories and poems about the history and beauty of the urban suburbs to from that of Rome South-Est. The presentation of the short film “La Prima Volta” by Miriam Tansini and then, the party! The RomaSudfEst with Valentina Correani and the #ORTO17, the Catering Choir and the words in music of young, talented songwriters like Emilio Stella, Gianmarco Dottori and Andrea D’Apolito made their guitars and sensations vibrate in an anthem to Roma that we are able to build together.
